The Last of Us has been selling very well in Japan. In fact, 88% of the first shipments were sold.
Media Create have reported that The Last of Us sold around 117,465 copies in its first week. This is impressive in itself considering Western games don’t sell as many copies as native Japanese games. That number represented around 88% of the first shipments the game received in Japan.
What’s even more impressive is that the game is a new IP and has the highest age restriction rating in Japan.
With 88% of initial shipments of the game sold, I’m sure a lot of retailers are stocking up on the game in its second week of sale in Japan.
I don’t know the exact numbers but I’m sure a similar thing is happening in New Zealand too. Two weeks after the game was released, stores in New Zealand are still short on copies of The Last of Us.
