Even though Australia has a R18+ rating, the country is still banning video games. First it was Saints Row IV and now it’s State of Decay.
State of Decay was released in other countries and became one of the fastest selling XBLA games ever. Despite its popularity, the game was still refused a classification in Australia.
Microsoft announced the following:
“Today, State of Decay was given a Refused Classification (RC) rating by the Australian Classification Board, meaning that the game cannot be made available to Australian customers at this time.[We are] currently evaluating the options with regards to the title’s classification.”
Microsoft operates within the legal requirements of the Australian Classification Board when it comes to the rating of all its first party gaming titles and agrees that not all content is suitable for all audiences. The Australian Classification system plays an important role in ensuring that Australians can only access age appropriate games and content.”
State of Decay will still be released in New Zealand as it has a R18+ rating for Graphic Violence and Offensive Language. A New Zealand release date will be announced very soon.
