The Verge had a chance to interview Scott Rohde (head of Sony Worldwide Studios Software Product Development) about E3. One of the highlights for Sony was knowing the Xbox One cost $499.
Here’s an excerpt of what Rohde’s said:
“The developers said what they wanted, eight gigs of the fastest ram available, all these things that developers wanted, still managed to do that in a machine that was super slick looking and still did it for $399 and that’s why it’s a moment we’re very proud of. That was accentuated when our competitors announced that theirs was $499”
“As soon as it was announced there was running up and down the aisles, “woohoo!”. That’s going to make our announcement that much better.”
Sony always had the $399 price point in mind for the PS4. They did not change the price last minute as some people speculated. Obviously this was good news for Sony and gamers alike. We all know how expensive the PS3 was when it launched.
The main reason the Xbox One is $100 more expensive is because the Kinect is bundled with each system. The Kinect is also mandatory for the device to run so it wasn’t possible for Microsoft to leave it out…

Um… I’m buying a PS4. Not gonna touch the Move. No one cares about Motion Controls. Enjoy paying $100 more for a feature no one is ever gonna use. Not even developers.
