Cross-Over games have been getting quite the attention this generation. From fighting games to adventure games, now the trend arrives to the RPG genre. From the various cross-over RPG games that were released over the years, like Cross Edge by NIS America, none really stood out. To re-attempt in bringing back cross-over RPG games, Namco Bandai released Project X Zone where characters from three companies unites in one huge story: Sega, Namco Bandai, and Capcom. Incorporating many elements from fighting and strategy RPG games, is Project X Zone the game that will stand up in a cross-over RPG game?
Let’s find out in our review of Project X Zone.
HOT
Various Characters Unite
As a fan of RPGs, it’s always been a dream to see characters from other games unite in one game. In Project X Zone, there are a plethora of characters boding together as they fight a common villain in the game. Expect characters from the Street Fighter games to team up with the characters from Virtua Fighter series, Resident Evil or even Dead Rising. The joy of seeing them in action is a dream come true and I must say that Namco Bandai pulled the right strings in bringing them all at once in one game. The method where they come in works well with the plot, although there are some moments players will wonder why they are there in the first place.
Fun Battle System
With the characters from various games teaming up with one another, you can expect that when they start brawling, all of their iconic moves will be unleashed. The battle system in Project X Zone is not from the typical SRPG that you have played before. While maintaining the grid-like SRPG elements found in other games, once the character decides to attack the enemies, they will go in some sort of a battlefield where it switches to a fighting game style. When the battle starts, you have several seconds to attack and spam the enemy with combos. Similar to fighting games, each character in a team will have certain moves that you can do. To know them, they will be displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Each of the characters that you will be controlling will be in a team. When you pair one character to a team, it can give you the advantage in battle as they might carry a devastating attack that can kill an enemy in one round. Also, the tag system from fighting games has been implemented in the game as well. When two teams are placed near with one another, players can press either of the shoulder buttons to have them appear in battle while you’re doing the combos. Depending on the meter at the bottom of the screen, you can perform a special where the team that you are currently controlling will show off their special moves equipped with nice animations which tend to become flashy and phenomenal cutscenes. When you see that, expect to be amazed.
Humor Within the Game
Have you ever wondered how characters from different worlds will interact with each other? Every time you see one character interacting with the other, expect some of them to throw some humor in. The conversations between characters will refer from one world to the next and the other will react in some sort of a funny way where they think they know what they’re talking about. Making references from one game to another is a fun thing to do and seeing the reaction of other characters will build up the entertainment value within the game.

You can put on 1 equip item (some of which are weapons or clothes/armors) that will give various stat boosts and 1 miscellaneous artifact item that has various effects from status immunities to exp or xp bonuses.
not saying the customization isn’t weak/shallow, but you can equip armor/weaponry.
Can’t deny that the plot is fairly weak, but the dialogue/interaction between characters is the real reason people want crossovers. It probably wouldn’t be possible to get a better story without either removing a large portion of the cast or at least changing a significant portion of their background.
