When the free to play Tekken Revolution game was revealed for PS3 only, many people wondered why it was available on the Xbox 360 too. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada revealed why on twitter.
Katsuhiro Harada tweeted:
“Ask Microsoft yourself. I already asked them about free to play of the console last year.”
By the sounds of that, Microsoft refused Namco Bandai to release Tekken Revolution on the Xbox 360. A weird move considering it’s free to play and a game from a third party publisher anyway.
A ton of free to play video games have already been announced for the PS4 too. Will Microsoft restrict free to play games on the Xbox One too?

June 9, 2013 at 7:45 PMIt’s not really a surprise. Other publishers have run into this – the MS policy for XBLA is NO FREE CONTENT. Period. There have been end runs around this (Super Meat Boy) and they’ve let indies sneak content into patches, but from the start they have been very clear that there can’t be anything free to download separately unless it’s an advergame.
They won’t restrict F2P games on XBone as long as there are a) still things you can buy and b) they get a cut of it. I’m guessing they weren’t getting a cut of it in this case.
