The biggest concerns people have with the Xbox One is the 24 hour internet check-in. Many people feared that the console would be useless if Microsoft turned off the servers for the machine in ten year’s time or so. The company promised something like that wouldn’t happen.
Major Nelson responded to concerns when the question was raised on reddit:
“I’ll just say this: We haven’t even started this generation, so it’s kind of early to talk about the end of the generation. That’s certainly something we would not do. That’s not the way the system is designed. It’s designed for flexibility. But let’s get the system out there first.”
This is still an unclear answer because the 24 hour internet check-in is still required to authenticate your Xbox One games in the short term. It’s possible later down the road, this policy will change during the end of the Xbox One’s life cycle…

June 15, 2013 at 9:14 PMWell… Major Nelson has said that that’s not the sort of thing he would let happen. And I believe him.
But he’s not the one calling the shots at Microsoft.

Bullshit. That response was complete jerkoff fluff. “Let’s just get it out there”? Put your head in a blender.
