343 Industries has announced a new Halo game titled Halo: Spartan Assault. This new entry breaks the series tradition in a couple ways. First, Spartan Assault is a top-down, twin-stick arcade shooter. The second, and more interesting, change comes from the fact that the title will be coming to Windows 8 smart devices and PC exclusively. That’s right, the Halo franchise is expanding to smartphones and tablets. And, from the looks of it, the two-stick shooter plays relatively well with virtual sticks. Furthermore, it seems to have maintained those detailed, open environments we’ve come to know and love.
The campaign will see players dropping into the suit of Commander Sarah Palmer for 25 missions which will tell a tale bridging Halo 3 and 4. Speaking of Halo 4, Spartan Assault will unlock special rewards for the aforementioned game. You can look for 343’s latest entry this July.
