RUNNER UP: Dead Rising 3
One of the biggest surprises of Microsoft this year at E3 was Dead Rising 3. Sure, the first Dead Rising was exclusive but after seeing Dead Rising 2 and Off the Record release on other consoles besides Microsoft, many assumed that the next Dead Rising game will be multiplatform as well. For Dead Rising fans, the game has a lot of improvements taking advantage of the console. Is it a big improvement? Yep.
The presentation that they showed was pretty exciting especially to Dead Rising fans like myself. My expectation wasn’t high but the game impressed me after leaving the room. Thanks to the power of the Xbox One, the amount of zombies that you usually see in the past games have tripled. That means the more zombies, the more fun that you will get in slaying zombies. Visual-wise, the textures have become a lot cleaner compared to its predecessor but since it’s just an alpha build, I wasn’t really paying attention much to it.
While Sony is implementing the PS Vita functionality to its PlayStation 4, Microsoft is going all out with its SmartGlass. One of the unique features that I like in Dead Rising 3 is ability to have a friend watch where you’re going and map points that you can go to. Sure, other games have it but with a game that is now open world, it is very beneficial to everyone that plays the game. In addition, players can now do an airstrike which watching on the screen is phenomenal. In terms of its ‘fun gameplay’ introduced in the past Dead Rising games, it has remained unchanged. Players can still craft weapons, find blue prints, and change costumes.
