Although Microsoft announced the Xbox One doesn’t require an “always-on” internet connection, a report from Kotaku suggests an internet connection is required to play the console anyway.
Kotaku interviewed Microsoft vice president Phil Harrison on the matter and asked the following:
Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?
Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.
Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.
Harrison: Correct.
It’s unknown if the Xbox One requires a log-in every 24 hours or if single player games remain playable offline for 24 hours. In either case, you will need an internet connection of some sort if you want to buy and purchase an Xbox One console. It sounds like the console will remain lifeless without some sort of internet connection…
