No Initial Time To Strategise
One issue that caused me to restart a couple of levels, is that you have no time to look at the level prior to the first wave. As the wave starts after only a couple of seconds some of the later levels, or fan made ones, where the enemies can come from multiple directions would be better without the mad rush to see when enemies can actually come from. A couple of times, before I knew it, I had lost points because I had my cubemen covering the wrong half of the level. Just allowing players to see the level for a little longer would fix this. At the end of the day looking around then restarting doesn’t take long, though it is just something that could be avoided.
Pay Once Then Pay Again
After you have buy the game, you will be able to use all of the game’s features, although the themes and character skins are clearly set up for more income. While I see that this extra income can cover server costs and updates for the game, the obvious nature that there are skins unavailable to me already is frustrating. I am a firm believer that if the content is ready when the game ships it should be included in the price free of charge. If the developer then takes the time to add new skins or themes afterwards it is a different matter. Nevertheless to see content there from day one as an optional extra, even only for a small price, is annoying.
Verdict
Cubemen 2 is everything gamers will want from a sequel and tower defence game. It takes what was loved from the original, tweaks the rest and then adds more content. As tower defence titles go it is great fun but it offers more than just defence which massively improve the games replayability. There are a couple of negatives but they can be overlooked, especially if 3 Sprockets follow through on their word to add more content as long as they receive income from the game.
