Rebooting a well received franchise is a big risk for a game developer to take. The typical reaction is as follows: the majority of people dig the changes they see in the reboot while others critique anything that strays from the franchise’s old ways. This generation, gamers have received a plethora of reboot games which have revived and vitalized old franchise. We’ve seen Bionic Commando, Need for Speed, Tomb Raider, Mortal Kombat and few others, but only some of them are received well by fans.
As we all head towards the next-generation of consoles, primarily the PlayStation 4 and the Next Xbox, many of the well-received reboots will most likely continue bringing us new installments. Let’s take a look at the top video game reboots of this generation:
#5- XCOM Enemy Unknown
In the early days of video games, real-time strategy games ended up as a neglected genre due to the rise of other styles of games. One of the games that flew under the radar was XCOM. To get the newer generation of gamers to play XCOM, Firaxis Games rebooted the franchise, providing improved graphics and much smoother gameplay. Packed with bonus contents not found in the original game, many were pleased by how the game turned out when it was released this generation. Out of all real-time strategy games, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is one of those games that was received well by critics and fans alike, not to mention its challenging nature seemed to hit the right note.
