Irrational Games’ Ken Levine has confirmed that the long planned BioShock movie adaptation is now dead.
Much like lots of other planned movies, the BioShock film had been in developmental hell for many years. Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski was to helm the project which was first announced in 2008.
The major problem that halted the film’s production was its budget. Universal didn’t want to spend $200 million on the film that was R rated too. Verbinski left the project and no other director replaced him.
Levine says the project is now dead as now wasn’t the right time to do it. He did mention another combination of people could make the film though.
