Beating triple A title such as FIFA 13 and Forza Horizon to an award is great for any game, especially when it is the first non home-console game to win in the category.
New Star Soccer has done exactly that by winning the Best Sports/Fitness category at the British Academy Games Awards 2013. New Star Soccer is a 90s style football and lifestyle simulator brought to life by its creator Simon Read. Following the awards Read spoke out about his monumental achievement.
“It’s been an absolutely massive honour for me, I was already overwhelmed by the amazing reaction to New Star Soccer when it released last year, but to go from working on my own at home to accepting an award from BAFTA is an incredible feeling. It’s been another reminder that the last ten years of developing NSS has all been worth it, and I hope that it encourages other indie developers to go out there and really follow their passions.
As New Star Soccer continues to gain this kind of phenomenal acknowledgement it makes me incredibly excited for the game’s future and the ways in which I can further expand it going forward.”
New Star Soccer has been downloaded over 2.1 million times, since being released across iOS, Android and Flash in March 2012, reaching number one in the UK iPhone App Store in June 2012. Congratulations to Read and New Star Soccer!
