The Walking Dead video game has been a smash hit all around the world winning many “Game of the Year” awards. Unfortunately, the game was never released in Australia and New Zealand.
The reason the game was not released last year was due to Australia’s classification board. Before 2013, games that exceeded the MA15+ rating would have been banned. Even though New Zealand allowed for R18+ games since 1993, they had to suffer too since both countries’ digital distribution services are the same.
Job Stauffer from Telltale games has now told IGN the following:
“Telltale can confirm today that the award-winning game series The Walking Dead was submitted to the Australian Classification Board and has received a rating of MA15+. The game will be available for purchase digitally on consoles via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network very soon and we will confirm expected release dates shortly. Retail release dates for The Walking Dead on XBOX 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in Australia will also be announced in the coming weeks.”
Hopefully this will also mean the game will be released in New Zealand as well. Telltale Games might confirm this at a later time…
