As rumored yesterday, Junction Point Studios is no more as Disney has now officially shut down the developer responsible for Epic Mickey and Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.
Disney released the following statement on the matter:
“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”
Disney mentioned the closure of Junction Point Studios was because of “an ongoing effort to address fast-evolving gaming platforms and the marketplace”.
It was rumored the closure was because of the poor sales that Epic Mickey 2 earned. It was initially thought the game sold only 270,000 copies in North America. New data from NPD group reveals the game has actually sold 529,000 units in North America thus far.
It appears now Disney is concentrating all of its efforts on the recently announced Disney Infinity game due out later this year.
