In the event someone is using your TV or you just don’t want to change inputs for whatever reason, you can change the display to the Wii U Gamepad. This can be done from the gamepad itself, since the menus are displayed on the screen regardless of mode. Once you set your Wii U for Gamepad mode the pad will start to play music and everything on the TV screen will be displayed on the gamepad screen. Any aspect of the game (including online) can be played in this mode, so it’s a huge plus if you don’t look at the TV screen.
Virtually Every Tekken Fighter is Playable
Besides adding a number of new features, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition has over 50 playable characters from the start. This means you should have no problem finding someone to play with (they’re all pretty diverse) and plenty of characters to “try out” if you get bored of another. Naturally every character has an unlockable ending, can be customized and features an exclusive Nintendo costume. Without a doubt, this game will keep you busy for the long hull.
NOT
Online Can Be Cheap
As mentioned above, you can set certain moves to your gamepad, but this has resulted in several users abusing this ability. Don’t be surprised if you run into someone spamming team moves, high damage attacks or something equally as cheap. Thankfully I didn’t run into it very often and it can easily be countered, though it still might ruin some of your fun.
VERDICT
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition might not be a system seller, but it certainly shows that the Wii U can match and exceed the console version. With fun new modes and Nintendo costumes, hardcore Nintendo fans will certainly have something to be excited for. While the gamepad adds some less than desirable things, the ability to play without the TV more than makes up for it. In the end, if you have a Wii U and want to know what to buy, this is must for anyone interested in fighting games.
