We all knew Call of Duty: Black Ops II as going to have a huge launch, but nobody could have predicted how big it was going to get. Gamestop has reported it sold 1 million copies of the game already.
“‘Black Ops II’ is shaping up to be our biggest game launch of all time,” Tony Bartel, president of the Grapevine, Texas-based chain, said yesterday in an e-mail. “GameStop sold more than 1 million units worldwide during our midnight launch period.”
Gamestop has retailers in the U.S, the U.K. Spain and in other countries. It’s impressive the game sold this many copies from just one retail chain alone.
It’s being projected that Black Ops II will sell between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in the U.S. and U.K alone in just 24 hours. On a worldwide basis, the game could have sold close to 8 million copies in just one day. We won’t know for sure until Activision makes an official announcement on it.
