Activision has broken the all time entertainment record earning over $500 million in sales for Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
This exceeds the record set by Modern Warfare 3 set just a year ago when that earned sales of over $400 million. Black Ops II also beat Halo 4 which earned $300 million in sales in 24 hours.
Black Ops II’s sales also beat the opening weekend records of Hollywood movies. The biggest ever 3-day launch for a film is The Avengers which earned $207 million.
“With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Bobby Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard, Inc. “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for “Harry Potter” and “Star Wars,” the two most successful movie franchises of all time. Given the challenged macro-economic environment, we remain cautious about the balance of 2012 and 2013.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops II can earn itself even more money when the Wii U version of the game is out very soon.
