Earlier this year you might recall the whole Street Fighter X Tekken DLC fiasco and while there are many appropriate reactions, what’s done is done. Since gamers now have the choice whether or not to buy the DLC, is it worth the hefty $20 dollar price tag?
After installing the patch required to enable the characters, you will see them listed on the character select screen. Sadly they will appear whether or not you purchase them, but thankfully they work in every mode. Each character takes over two previously empty sports and the pairs denote whom their partner is. This is very important if you want to play arcade mode with the new characters.
As you should already know, if you play arcade with certain partners special cutscenes will appear. These additional cutscenes serve to further explain whatever ending you get, so it’s a nice little bonus. Every DLC character team gets one, which gives you an excuse to play some more arcade.
If new stories aren’t enough for you, every DLC character also has their own set of titles. These are unlocked the usual way, but certainly gives you a reason to try them all out. Speaking of which, how do the new characters stack up?
As you most likely assumed, the Street Fighter characters are exactly what you would expect. You will be glad to know that they’re pretty much unchanged, so you can expect the knife on the ground for Cody and things of that nature. However the real highlight is the Tekken side, which has a number of fantastic characters.
Most of the Tekken side are pretty easy to handle, so some of these characters will be great for new comers. Additionally Bryan and Alisa have some really cool attacks and their EX moves are especially awesome. However Christie Monteiro is extremely easy to pick up and perform combos. While some people might find this ideal, others will find it quite annoying. Either or it is something to consider.
In the end the DLC is just what you would expect. Every character is fully fleshed out and receives a story / additional titles to unlock. While the price tag is a little high, some of the characters are pretty awesome, not to mention how amusing Sakura / Blanka’s story is. Sure the DLC certainly isn’t for everyone, but it’s a must if you can’t get enough of Street Fighter X Tekken.
[Editor’s Note: The Street Fighter X Tekken characters were reviewed on the Xbox 360 platform. This DLC pack was provided to us by the publisher for review purposes. Additionally keep in mind that this DLC does not unlock Megaman / Pacman for the Xbox and that these characters are never coming.]
