Today, producer Dave Cox took the time to sit down with us and take questions regarding Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 and Mirror of Fate. Here’s a quick rundown of what we learned:
NOTE: Be forewarned, if you have not completed Lords of Shadow, there are spoilers below.
– Mirror of Fate takes place 25 years after Lords of Shadow
– Trevor Belmont, Gabriel’s son, is one of the protagonists in Mirror of Fate
– Another Belmont descendant, Simon, is playable in a different time period
– Mirror of Fate’s story adds to Lords of Shadow 2, but isn’t necessary to understand the sequel
– All stories all “self-contained” so that prior knowledge is not required
– Mirror of Fate focuses on the Belmonts and Lords of Shadow 2 focuses on Dracula
– Mirror of Fate takes advantage of the 3DS’ touch screen for map navigation
– There will be a heavier emphasis on exploration in Mirror of Fate
– The exploration is further enhanced by the “basically open-world environment”
– Certain areas can only be accessed by one of the four protagonists in Mirror of Fate
– Other consoles, such as Vita, have been considered for Castlevania and may support the series one day
– At the moment, there are no plans to bring the franchise to another platform though
– Lords of Shadow 2 is being developed on both consoles simultaneously to ensure the same experience on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
– For this reason, Lords of Shadow 2 does not have a lead platform
– Mirror of Fate was influenced by Dracula’s Curse, an entry that Dave Cox remembers fondly
That wraps up the Castlevania knowledge we gained during our enjoyable Q&A with the producer. Hopefully you, too, have enjoyed these fresh details about both games.
