The 2010 live-action Tekken movie was both a commercial and critical failure. Naturally, Hollywood does not listen to anyone and is planning a prequel.
As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Crystal Sky CEO Steven Paul “plans Tekken: Rise of the Tournament as part of a franchise of movies. Based on a popular series of video games, it is a prequel to the 2010 movie Tekken, which was released on video in the U.S. by Anchor Bay as part of a 15-movie output deal signed by Crystal Sky in 2010“.
Tekken: Rise of the Tournament will be directed by Prachya Pinkaew who directed Ong Bak starring Tony Jaa. Crystal Sky has not yet signed any actors to the film yet to it sounds like the studio is planning to cast people who fit the role best in lieu of just big name stars.
No release date has been scheduled for the movie yet. A sequel to the animated Tekken: Blood Vengeance would have been wiser…
