NOT
Lack of Content
The lack of content in Mario Tennis Open is the biggest drawback that gamers should watch out for. For a game that carries the same price tag as the other full-retail 3DS game, Mario Tennis Opens feels like a lot of content is missing, especially its mini-games. Since playing tennis in the tournament mode for hours can be fun, once you’re done, you’ll be sure to look for a mini-game but sadly, there are only four of them. These four mini-games are fun to play nevertheless but it’s not enough to keep gamers coming back for more.
For the multiplayer portion, it’s fun but the way Camelot developed the online features of the game is lackluster. Instead of having a community like the ones in Mario Kart 7 where you can have your own tournament with other people, you’ll see that when you attempt to play online, the features it has are bareboned. No community interaction whatsoever can be found and you’ll most likely rely on a meaningless match with other people. What’s worse when playing the game is when you experience lag that can really hinder your experience. Almost every match that I get to play online, I experience lag and it’s not pretty.
VERDICT
Mario Tennis Open is a fun game, especially since it’s been years when we last received a tennis game with Mario in it. The biggest drawback that players should be worried about is the lackluster content it has and the faulty multiplayer portion. Despite this problem, Mario Tennis Open still proves to be an addictive game to play wherever you go.
