Once the timer hit zero on the Baldur’s Gate countdown site, Overhaul Games announced that they are releasing Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition for the PC this summer. The HD collection of the the two popular titles is only one part of the long-term goal that the developer hopes to achieve.
Here’s what Cameron Tofer of Overhaul had to say on the subject:
“Baldur’s Gate 3 has been our long term goal. We have a lot of things to put in place before such a project can be launched. So currently there is no such project but that’s the one we want to do. Our thoughts have been that Enhanced Edition for BG 1 and 2 just make sense before there’s any Baldur’s Gate 3.”
So, it seems that Baldur’s Gate 3’s existence rests on the success of the Enhanced Edition. If the PC game sells exceptionally well this summer, I can’t see Atari turning down the idea of Baldur’s Gate 3. However, there’s always the chance that the publisher could neglect the title.
If that happens to be the case, Tofer has expressed his interest in utilizing the now famous Kickstarter method. Only time will tell what lengths the developer has to go to in order to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to the series’ fans.
