Every now and then there’s a big “hot button” gaming issue. Most of them are silly based off preferences or style, but the “Online Pass” issue is bit different. The main issue is the classic “Is the glass half full or half empty?” outlook. Some view them as a bonus with purchase where as others view them as a penalty. 38 stuidos however see’s it as a reward.
After a heated debate on the official forum Curt Schilling (Founder and Chairman) appeared to clear up the passes intent.
“DAY 1 DLC, to be extremely and VIVIDLY clear, is FREE, 100% totally FREE, to anyone that buys a new copy of Reckoning, ANYONE.
If you don’t buy new games you buy them used, and in that case you will have to pay for the Day 1 free DLC content the new copy buyers got for free.
It’s clear the intent right? To promote early adopters and MUCH MORE IMPORTANT TO ME, REWARD fans and gamers who commit to us with their time and money when it benefits the company.
Every single person on the planet could wait and not buy Reckoning, the game would hit the bargain bin at some point and you could get it cheaper. 38 Studios would likely go away.”
This is just part of his post, but if you would like to read it all you can find it here, though be warned it gets a bit out there.
Anyways how do you feel on the matter? Do you think those seven quests are a big deal or do you think online passes need to go? Tell us what you think below.

February 1, 2012 at 10:59 PMI enjoy DLC, well let me rephrase.. I enjoy good DLC. A lot of studios now know that DLC sells.. you cannot preview it so you do not know if it’s worth it. Well, ok.. not that big of a deal.. only 10-15 bucks.. I still have a good game even if the DLC is not good. The real problem is that Studios build in this DLC from the release date.. so when your DLC is just an unlock code that unlocks what is already on the disc.. Battlefield Bad Company 2 did it for 1-3 of their releases.. and GoW3 has the Online pass for content that was planned and produced before the game was released. The Intent is to make money.. however, the intent is also to rip you off because they know DLC will most likely sell. After learning how this DLC system works.. seeing it progress in Console gaming, I have learned to wait.. rather than jump and be the 1st to get ripped off, as far as DLC goes. The Online pass is a new feature or new child of DLC and it will be interesting to see when It is going to end up like Team Fortress 2 on PC? What happened to classic gaming?
