Army Corps of Hell is an interesting game. The first couple of levels can be easily completed with no tactic, but as you progress you got to use new tactics. This guide will help you beat the first 20 stages and get a few of the trophies.
How to Play
The first thing you must learn to be successful, are formations (Left trigger). Spearmen in formation will swarm enemies and destroy them in seconds. Soldiers will send two warriors in formation, but you can’t move with the warrior. Finally Magi will change magic at a slower rate, though they’re easier to control. Additionally formation is a great way to get all your troops back to you. I strongly suggest doing this to get past tricky traps.
As you progress, the first thing you’re bound to notice, are the icons under the stage name. These will give you a general idea of what to expect. Some of them like Dragon or Lightning are far less worrisome, than others like bugs. You can find a complete listing below.
You MUST use these to come up with basic tactics. The keys to success, is knowing what works best for a given sign. The first thing you must learn is that fire is far more deadly than lightning. This is because lightning monsters lose their charge after a lightning attack. If you force them to use this magic, then you’re free to swarm on them. However, flame monsters are always on fire. These monsters can be attacked if you have fire armor on, but you won’t get this till later on in the game.
Personally I have been using the following method to handle every stage. For beast stages, I strongly suggest using spearmen. These will quickly down bosses and they’re the biggest problem for these stage. Dragon bosses are a complete joke for spearmen. If you constantly send your warriors to fight, then you will most likely beat the dragon in around 40 seconds. You honestly won’t need a tactic, as the spearmen will disable the boss. Bugs are tricky to call. Some stages use Spidread / Pyrosaura bosses, which are easier with spearmen or soldiers. Other bug stages have Beelzeboon, who is going to drive you insane without a magi army. I strongly suggest trying bug stages with magi and if you fail without encountering Beelzeboon, then use the spearmen.
One of the most important tactics, is knowing where to strike bosses. You see, bosses are special because they can get stunned. This is important because there is a critical place to strike and a “useful” place to strike. The “useful” place will break off the boss, which allows you to harvest for materials. These materials can be used to make bigger / better weapons, so it’s strongly advised to always attack these spots first.
Locations:
Gigadon, Magiflare, Thundoom = Tail.
Glutia = The things with mouths.
Empyraptor, Beatrix, Bluebolt = Wings, Tail.
Sqidread, Pyrosaura = Head.
Grangelea, Daarkus = Wings.
Beelzeboon, Boonbairn = Midsection, though they need a lot of life.
Harder Levels
Prior to using this guide, make sure you equip a mantle unlocked via a code. These will be better than anything you can use at this point. If you don’t have one, use can the guide here to obtain one.
Master of Decay (Stage 15):
Master of Decay is when you first encounter Beelzeboon. He is the weakest boss found on the first 20 stages, but he is also the hardest. This is because his fly army can drive you insane. The key to killing Beelzeboon is to use the Magi and maintain distance. Every now and then a midsize fly will come at you. Kill these to take away a swarm of flies. After about six, you’re finally able to attack him directly. MAKE SURE TO FINISH HIM OFF or you will need to redo the first part.
This is possible with other classes, though it’s a lot less stressful with the Magi.
Beyond the Inferno (Stage 16):
Prior to this you had to fight two Gigadon’s. While this is a hard fight, Magiflare is a LOT more powerful. Beyond the Inferno has you fighting two of them, so make sure to use spearmen. Using anything else will just get you killed. I also strongly suggest bringing a few drums or you might accidently die and fail.
The Dragons Ridge (Stage 17):
Continue to use Spearmen, because if you’re powerful enough, you can actually prevent one dragon from ever attacking you. This will avoid the flying past you phase, which is extremely annoying to deal with.
Trophy Guide
Lord of Hell
Cleared up to stage 20.
Finishing stage 20 is shockingly easy. Just about any class can down the boss with no issue. The hardest stage in that bracket is stage 16.
Hell’s Solider
Cleared a stage between 11 and 20 with soliders only.
This is very easy on stage 11 and for the later Purgatory’s Soldiers 21 is super easy.
Hell’s Spearmen
Cleared a stage between 11 and 20 with spearmen only.
I strongly suggest stage 16, because I couldn’t beat it with any other method. When you hit 20+, Purgatory’s Spearmen is super easy on stage 23.
Hell’s Magi
Cleared a stage between 11 and 20 with Magi only.
Play stage 14. This stage lacks any special bosses and caters to the Magi class. When you hit 20+, Purgatory’s Magi can be done on stage 21 with moderate ease.
Infamy of Hell
Cleared a stage between 11 and 20 with an overall platinum rating.
This is easiest done on stage 14 with the Magi class. I strongly suggest having high damage and a small army (around 50). This is somewhat luck based, but can be done. If you’re unsure what platinum rank looks like, you can see a platinum ranked stage below.

I actually have like 8 pages of notes I planned on turning into a guide. However I’ve been caught up in other projects to actually hammer it into a guide. Expect a full trophy guide by the end of this week.
