Despite being an episodic game, the last we saw of the Sonic 4 was way back at the tail end of 2010. Fans of retro reboots need not despair though, as Sonic 4 isn’t dead. It’s just been taking its time.
Sonic 4: Episode 2 was announced on Gamespot earlier with a short teaser trailer. It’s nothing more than a teaser, but it does carry two concrete details. First is that the antagonist for the game will apparantly be Metal Sonic, a shiny robotic version of Sonic created by Robotnik/Eggman to put down the speedy hedgehog once and for all. Second is that Sonic wont be running solo this time – long time side-kick Tails Miles Prower is back as well.
Critics of the first episode might be pleased to hear than the oft-maligned physics of the first game, which made Sonic feel much slower than his classic titles did, have been improved for the second episode.
No release date, but the teaser promises we’ll see the hedgehog sometime in 2012.
