Sony has announced that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception managed to sell 3.8 million units worldwide the first day it went on sale.
Earlier this week, reports believed that Uncharted 3 sold only 1.1 million copies in the first week. That early estimate was wrong and the game sold a whopping 3.8 million copies instead.
Nick Caplin Head of Communications at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe commented:
“Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that. Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it, and the team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail. The Uncharted series, exclusive to PlayStation®3, has redefined the third-person adventure genre and is now one of the leading franchises available.”
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is clearly set to be one of the biggest selling titles for the PS3. This figure is more impressive considering the game is a PS3 exclusive. In comparison, Battlefield 3 sold 5 million copies in its first week when it was released on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, while Modern Warfare 3 sold 6 million copies on its first day of release.
