So you just dropped $60 on Modern Warfare 3; you knew there would be more DLC to come in the option of map packs and what have you. So you are prepared to spend a few extra dollars, what’s the norm? $15 per map pack? Sure thing, no problem; but what if I told you that Modern Warfare 3 has around TWENTY pieces of DLC planned?
You read that right folks, in the PlayStation Store update for this week, the Call of Duty: Elite 1 year subscription had a very interesting description. It reads: “All the MW3 DLC (20 pieces) during the 9-month DLC season starting early 2012. Includes multiplayer and special ops maps.”
This kind of thing truly frightens me because if this model were to succeed, this ridiculiously expensive hobby that we all love and share could hit astronomical levels. Every successful game could decide to start releasing DLC out the wazoo. Twenty DLC packs over 9 months, that’s around 2 per month. Hopefully this venture won’t be financially successful, or at least just be a venture that only king of genre titles can pull off.

Take it how you will. I honestly hope that iRock is correct, but the way DLC is being handled lately it seems the “Nickle and Dime” trend is gaining speed.
