Following in Resistance 3’s footsteps, Uncharted 3 will be the second game to utilize Sony’s new Online Pass.
Online passes are nothing new as we’ve seen various companies implement their own redeemable code-based system to prevent piracy and used games sales. Now, Sony has decided to try out this method for themselves by requiring an online pass for the multiplayer component of its games (only Sony’s exclusives, so far).
Sony’s Software Manager, Juan Jimenez, recently revealed Uncharted 3’s Sony Online Pass inclusion during an interview. Buying the game new nabs you this pass for free and, once activated, all accounts on that PS3 system are able to take advantage of the pass. However, this still poses a problem for those who prefer to go the used game or rental route. The only way to play a copy online that isn’t brand new is to pay $9.99 for the Online Pass on the PSN Store. Get used to this because Sony has made it very clear that they will be continuing this for all of their AAA exclusives.
Uncharted 3 releases November 1st for the Playstation 3 exclusively.
