Earlier this week, one of the most challenging things that I’ve encountered in the game is having a “Curse”.
When a player is inflicted with a “Curse”, they will die instantly. The moment they respawn on the bonfire, they will be shocked to see that their health is cut in half. It may seems not a big deal at first but the scary part is, there are three ways to cure it and if you’re stuck in the middle of a high level area and the HP bar is not looking good, you might as well say, “f*ck it!”.
What is Curse
In Dark Souls, being inflicted with a “curse” is one of the things you hope won’t happen to you. The first time you get inflicted, the HP will cut in half. If at some point later in the game you get inflicted again, it will reduce again from 1/2 to 1/4. Get inflicted the third time and your HP will drop to a low 12.5%. And if you’re still unlucky and you get inflicted again for the fourth time, your HP will reduce to a low 6% and that’s it.
So what do I do now?
As I mentioned earlier, there are three ways:
1. Make sure that you’re game is patched up. For PS3 owners, don’t forget to download the 1.03 Patch as it will have some update that will pretty much make curing Curse a lot easier.
Near the Firelink Shrine and once you open the shortcut in the Sewers between the Undead Burg Basement and Firelink Shrine Sewers, there will be a lady undead merchant. For 6000 Souls, you can buy the Purging Stone that removes the curse. It’s pretty expensive and I recommend purchasing an extra in case you get stuck.
2. After fighting the Gargoyles in the Undead Parish rooftop, there should be a man just below the bell that will sell you a Purging Stone.
3. Find Snuggly the Crow, in Firelink Shrine and trade a Red Eye Orb for Two Purging Stone.
So what enemies should I watch out for?
So far…
When you’re in the Depths, lower section, watch out for the frogs. Unless you have a high curse resistance, expect to be inflicted in less than 15 seconds.

October 11, 2011 at 11:17 PMIt’s worth noting that the pardoner in the church bell tower sells Purging Stones for only 3,000 souls- half what the undead lady in the wayery tunnel sells hers for.

October 17, 2011 at 5:02 PMyes ingward in the londo ruins will sell you one according to the strat guide but im having a very difficult time dealing with the ghosts even though they arent very strong… but you cant see them attack most of the time because they can attack from inside a wall and with my health halved… i think ill try the bell tower at this point
