Amazon has announced a new entry to the Kindle family today, a colour tablet called the Kindle Fire which people are already referring to as a potential “iPad-killer”.
The Kindle Fire is an Android-powered tablet has been initially priced at $199, with all of the features that can be expected of a tablet using a well-established base like Android. The tablet will follow the footsteps of the original Kindle with book-reading, most likely using the currently available Kindle for Android app, as well as a touch-screen, cloud storage, video playing capabilities, and most importantly, games. The obvious examples have already been stated by Amazon, Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja and Plants Vs Zombies. As it uses Android, the Kindle Fire can look forward to possibly the second most well-explored and accessible games market on any tablet device, meaning that a vast number of games will probably be available on the Fire from the start.
The Kindle Fire will feature a 7inch screen, 8GB of internal storage (The majority of your Fire data will be cloud-based) and will support Flash. With a purchase of the Fire, you will also receive 30 days free access to the Amazon Prime video service.
The Fire, sadly, will not be released with 3G, a microphone or a camera initially, but the price more than makes up for the lack of that functionality.
