Interceptor Entertainment, a fan made studio who were developing a remake of Duke Nukem 3D, have released an official statement today confirming that Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded is to be put on hold, indefinitely.
It all seemed to so promising towards the back end of last year when Interceptor Entertainment received the green light from IP owners Gearbox to proceed with full blown production of remaking the 1996 classic. What little media of the fan-made project that was made available to the public demonstrated some impressive character models and highly recognisable and nostalgic level designs. It appeared as if development was coming along nicely, but unfortunately, it has now hit a brick wall.
An official statement on Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded’s website stated:
“After careful consideration of the progress and direction of the project, Interceptor Entertainment has decided to finish Duke Nukem: Reloaded at a future date that is yet to be determined.
Interceptor Entertainment still has the good will and non commercial license provided to us to use the Duke Nukem brand for our creative ambitions. We hope to resume that work again when the time is right.
In the interim, please know that the praise and support we received for our efforts has been both overwhelming and appreciated. Interceptor Entertainment looks forward to revisiting the DNR project in the future, along with several other new, creative pursuits. Our fans can rest assured: We are going to focus our efforts on exciting endeavors and we welcome the challenges that await us!
With sincere gratitude to our fans for their incredible support,
Interceptor Entertainment”
Judging from experience, when fan made development projects come to a standstill, they rarely get going again, so Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded may now regrettably never see the light of day. No real reason was given as to why this has come about and as stated above, Interceptor Entertainment do still hold the licence. So maybe there is hope yet that we will one day see the Duke make an explosive comeback to re-live his glorious 3D days, kicking alien ass and chewing bubble gum along the way.
