DOOM and DOOM 2 were banned for sale in Germany back in the early ’90s. It was announced today that the two games will finally be available in Germany.
The two games were previously labelled as “Media Harmful to Young Persons”, this put the games in the same restrictive category as porn. DOOM and DOOM 2 now have a USK 16+ rating.
“We are obviously very pleased with their decision,” Bethesda Softworks VP of PR and Marketing Pete Hines told us this morning. “Can’t give you details yet on when they will be available in Germany. We’ll let everyone know as soon as we know.”
Germany also rated Gears of War 3 having previously indexed the other two games from the franchise. Microsoft is trying to see if it can get the first two Gears of War games available in Germany as well.
