EB Games Australia has revealed on its Facebook page that its copies of the Collector’s Edition of Skyrim are selling very fast.
EB Games is one of Australia’s major video gaming retailers. Stock of the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the Skyrim Collector’s Edition have already sold out. It’s been announced that only PS3 versions are left but copies are “running out fast”.
If you live in Australia, it might be a good idea to pre-order your copy now via EB Games’ official website. It’s strictly says that you can only order one copy per customer. You are unable to buy one for a friend as it’s that popular.

August 8, 2011 at 7:45 AMIt’s called maketing. You say how good its selling so people go oh I must hurry and get this pre ordered before its too late. At $200 AUS a pop its not worth it.

August 9, 2011 at 11:38 PMXkem: That is the standard edition, they are talking about the COLLECTORS edition
n/a: It’s not strictly about marketing; though it has something to do with it obviously heh. EB sold out completely by Tuesday for all platforms and GAME has none left for PC either, so was hardly a “marketing tactic” – they were telling the truth. Bethesda also stated these would be extremely limited so it makes sense. I make $6.3k a month so $200 for a nice collectors edition isn’t hard to come by – worth it for me (and everyone else who has now picked them all up it seems). What is ‘worth it’ is completely subjective.
AV: I don’t know why you feel the need to be a hater but have fun with that! I’m sure its great to find articles about stuff you hate just to post on them? :)
Skyrim won’t be perfect – but it will be a great game.

You know they are sold out more or less everywhere right, not just EB?
You know that Bethesda released a lot less than most game companies do so with the high popularity of the game and the lower numbers of CE’s they are more likely to sell out quicker? EB don’t control how many they get to sell nor can they made any more – it’s up to the publishers (ZeniMax / Bethesda) to make more to sell – which i hope they do.
And did you think it makes ANY business sense to hold out on copies they could sell now just to sell them later at the same price? Why would ANY company hold off selling a $198 game just to sell that game copy of it at $198 later? Makes no business sense at all unless you want to save 1-2 copies for a competition perhaps :)
Lastly.. EB Games have instead released their own “eb version” of Skyrim without the dragon and with a few different tid bits of their own (created and managed by them, with permission) and you can check that out on the website – no doubt to get more sales though the door… and why? Because they have RUN OUT of CE’s – just like they said, just like almost everywhere else! (GAME has no PC CE’s left either last i checked)
What i will give you however is that a lot of people who bought the real CE’s are going to ebay them or already are (i didn’t check) which is a shame; and i will not buy from snipers just on principle.
But you are obviously very wrong about them selling out and the proof is out there for you to see.
Is it really so hard for you to believe such a simple premise as being sold out as the truth? i mean really! lol

One last thing i touched on but forgot to expand upon:
When CE’s sell out, esp really quickly there are certainly times when they get some new stock.
However there is an announcement from the developer and/or publisher about the new numbers of CE’s (press release generally) and it’s only THEN that places like EB / GAME and other online stores “magically” get more copies. If this happens it would be great – but once again there is proof you can find directly on the net with a few searches about the new CE numbers being raised not by EB or others but by the people who actually supply them! – they even sometimes tweet or FB the details these days :)
I’ve been a gamer since 1989, i’m a it manager and application and website developer (not a game developer however) so i’m not new to this and i buy A LOT of games and keep up with news; i know how business works as the IT Manager for a media company and i know how to cross check statements and find the truth as i need to do it often!
What i DON’T know is why most people on this website seem to be disgustingly cynical about everything. It’s like everyone is trying to be an elitist jerk and whoever hates the most is the winner.
Gaming is about fun, stop hating on everything and enjoy life.
The negative vibe this entire website is quite frankly enough for me to just not bother coming back – which i’m sure will make you happy ;)

August 11, 2011 at 4:32 AMYeah just like when the God Of War Pandora box was sold out real quick by ebgames and others too. But Eb were still selling copies of that as well as other retailers as recently as only months ago.
David
August 11, 2011 at 8:06 PMI already explained how that works, between re stocks from publishers, canceled orders and returns/trade in’s – it’s bound to happen.
None of that means they didn’t actually sell out, and they still can only sell them for the SAME price or less, they don’t make a premium.
EB (and GAME the rest inc online stores who also sold more God of War Box’s after the fact too! and they have all done for 100’s more CE’s before that) are not stupid and work to make money, what you are suggesting they are doing would only cause them to lose it. It’s about economics – think hard about the benefits:
You can assume they want to create demand by hold back on supplies but they lose the sales by not selling to them now while demand is ACTUALLY the highest point and the fever rush customers have right now to just buy without thinking etc. As any good business owner knows $200 now is worth more than $200 later for the same item for company cash flow reasons (something i have to deal with every day) and because customers who cannot get a copy now will look for it elsewhere – i still see a few 360/ps3 Skyrim CE’s left on GAME.com.au after all, no PC ones still and EB will NOT be happy about customers going to GAME.
Why do you think EB have suddenly released a ‘eb games exclusive’ Skyrim bundle the day after selling out? cause its good business sense to do so!: The best time to sell is now, the demand is happening now while the stories and the announcements are out there for people to read… sadly people have stated they have now pre-ordered both lol
No company that sell’s games holds back on selling stock just to sell it at the same or lower price later on; that’s utterly ridiculous. They lose sales and possibly customers who find a better experience elsewhere and might even continue to shop there (and hell i like GAME a lot more then EB… not a EB fan at all sorry to say) so what you and others are suggesting is just plain WRONG from every possible sense and angle…but especially the business one!
What you ARE doing is making an assumption without thinking it ALL the way through and considering that assumption fact
