Notch has today revealed that players will be able somehow to own land in Minecraft in Beta 1.8.
When asked about town borders and why he doesn’t just make them walls or fences Notch replied that it’s “Because players can claim land and might not want those walls. But don’t tell anyone yet!”
Owning land and maybe houses in towns would bring another aspect to Minecraft so hopefully Notch manages to sort out town borders prior to the release of Minecraft beta 1.8.

August 4, 2011 at 10:34 PMYou know what, this is a really, really stupid feature if they put it in. Why would I want space in a town when you can build a house anywhere ON THE ENTIRE PLANET that you like? I love Minecraft but Notch’s new ideas are some weak sauce.

August 7, 2011 at 1:44 PMMaybe some people would like huffing paint. But it doesn’t mean they should add paper towels to Minecraft so that you can huff the dyes that you collect.

August 10, 2011 at 7:26 PMThis isn’t much different to what cuboid does in multiplayer; it sounds like he’s just adding it in to the game in another respect – that probably doesn’t inhibit you from building wherever you want in singleplayer, though it may add consequences for building in land claimed by npcs without their permission, and I’m happy to see Minecraft becoming more game-like and less toy-like, personally.

August 13, 2011 at 11:29 AMI don’t understand why he called it an ‘Adventure Update’. Minecraft was always an adventure game.
That said, I do like the new ideas; except for the glass panels. I don’t care for seeing a thinner-yet-just-as-ugly version of glass. But hey.
