MCV has reported that Driver: San Francisco will be releasing as a full digital download on the PSN.
Ubisoft Reflections MD Garth Edmonson made the statement that it will be releasing on the PlayStation Store “in a few weeks”. The game releases on September 2nd, 2011 so the PSN release will be sometime around that date as well.
“We are doing triple-A games you can download to the hard-drive,” Edmonson said, as reported by Develop. “Driver is released on the PlayStation Network in a few weeks, for example. That’s the full Blu-Ray/DVD experience you can download.
Mr Edmonson shows a real liking to do digital distribution, although he mentioned that physical data will be sticking for a while. He gave an example that downloading a 50GB game like Metal Gear Solid 4 will take around 36 hours!
Driver: San Francisco won’t take that much data so we should all be fine. He failed to mention if the game will be released on Steam for the PC or Xbox LIVE for the Xbox 360.
