Almost any FPS fan you talk to has heard of Counter-Strike and a good portion of those people can recount their time with the game (assuming they aren’t still playing it). Counter-Strike has survived to this day as one of the greatest FPS game ever created, and that’s saying something in a market ruled by Call of Duty.
Now, over a decade after the initial game’s release, Valve has announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.
Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment are both working on the new title. You may recall the latter developer from their work on the Counter-Strike Source update.
From the sounds of it, this is what fans, including myself, have been waiting to see for countless years now. The best part? It will be playable at PAX Prime in Seattle when the event starts in two weeks.
This iconic team-based first-person shooter is set to release on PSN, XBLA, and PC in early 2012.
