For many years now, Australia never has a R18 rating for games. As a result, many games like Mortal Kombat were banned in the country. It appears things are about to change.
Representatives of Australia’s states approved the R18 rating with 8/9 states voting in favor for the change. Only New South Wales’ Attorney-General Greg Smith prevented it from passing.
Australian Minister for Justice Brendan O’Connor announced that Greg Smith has now since given support for the change so now the R18 rating in Australia can now go forward.
Instead of banning content designed for adults, anyone over 18 can now play games designed for their age group.
