The old-school shooter is now being turned into a live-action movie according to the Hollywood Reporter. Is a Space Invaders game even wanted?
Big screen producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Gigi Pritzker have teamed up to acquire the rights to produce the Space Invaders film and are now seeking a writer to pen the script.
Space Invaders is one of the oddest game-to-film adaptations I have ever heard of. As many gamers will know, Space Invaders was released back in 1978 and was all about shooting the incoming aliens. It had no cinematics or even a storyline to speak of so making a film out of a simplistic game will be no easy task.
Still, it’s interesting to note why they would make a film out of Space Invaders. There are a lot of other game franchises that could make better movies as I fear Space Invaders will just become another flop. It could very well be a film similar to that of this year’s Battle: Los Angeles. That movie was also about aliens in space invading Earth.
