Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata revealed one of the reasons why the 3DS received a major price cut.
Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS to avoid making it a failure like its Gamecube. Satoru felt Nintendo had an opportunity with the Gamecube, but failed to capitalize on them. Back then, Nintendo didn’t drop the price of the Gamecube and lost out to the PS2 and Xbox as a result.
With the 3DS price cut, Nintendo is more confident consumers would purchase more 3DS’ as a result. Not to mention the PSVita will now cost more than the 3DS when it comes out sometime next year.
Nintendo believes its more financially stable and can take risks thanks to the success of the DS and Wii.
