DICE’s community manager, Daniel Matros, recently revealed some changes to the sniper class in Battlefield 3. Scope sway and reflection are being implemented to keep the game balanced now that going prone is an option.
In Bad Company 2, snipers only had to worry about leading moving target and bullet drop. Granted prone wasn’t an option, but the sniper class was greatly overused online due to the simplicity of the “point and shoot” idea many held. Long-time players may remember many instances where snipers made up 3/4 of their squad (4/4 if you were playing hardcore squad deathmatch).
The addition of scope sway and reflection will deter a majority of these people from this class and (hopefully) leave the snipers who play their role correctly filling in the recon class when Battlefield 3 hits. If anything, scope reflection is sure to weed out most of the campers since sitting still too long in one spot can give your position away through a flash of light easily visible by the opposing team.
Personally, I find these changes to be beneficial to the growth of the franchise online as well as providing a better challenge for those virtual snipers out there looking to prove themselves amongst their peers. How do you feel about this change?

October 28, 2011 at 10:39 PMEveryone should be able to play the game in an environment they enjoy. Those who think snipers are given the advantage need to play normal mode and those who enjoy sniping need to play hardcore. To try and infuse the two was a horrible idea and should have compensated in a more detailed manor. True snipers DO have an advantage on the battlefield because they have perfected the skills of stealth. perhaps Dice should have taken the time to make the skills of using the Recon more realistic. The “sway” was a good idea, bullet drop good idea, perhaps windage should have been adopted for the Recon class only. There is so much more detail they can throw on top of the Recon so noobs cant just pick up and shoot.
