Creative Director of WWE ’12 has spoken as to why the franchise will no longer be called “Smackdown vs. Raw”.
As revealed in an interview on the official website, Corey was asked about his opinion of the name change to WWE ’12.
Corey mentioned that “that the franchise has been getting stale” and the gaming experience was no longer fresh. He also mentioned that the “Smackdown vs. Raw” name no longer has any meaning in the current WWE product.
Both THQ and the WWE felt the name was outdated as the company no longer has “brand wars”. The only time stars from different shows wrestle each other is once a year in a PPV called “Bragging Rights”.
He said WWE ’12 sounds authentic to tell people that this is an officially licensed WWE product.
