As reported by Eurogamer, Sony has already started working on the PlayStation 4.
Sony has confirmed during a conference call to investors that work on a “future platform is already under way”.
Sony’s executive vice president Masuru Kato commented:
For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.
It looks as if Sony has started work a lot earlier than expected to compete with the likes of Nintendo’s Project Cafe and the rumors that Microsoft has started working on a next-generation console as well.
Sony was originally not going to start working on the PS4 yet as it planned for the PS3 to go for 10 long years.
