Treasure, the developer behind many over-the-top bullet hell shooters is at it again. This time with a familiar franchise Bangai-O. The first game of the Bangai-O franchise was released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64 and the Sega Dreamcast.
The series lay dormant until 2008 when Bangi-O Spirits was released for the Nintendo DS. The game was well received, but was plagued by framerate issues due to being on a portable system. Now with the power of the Xbox 360 behind it will the game succeed or fall flat lets look at the Hot’s and the Not’s
HOT
Content
The amount of content that is on offer in this game is incredible there are tons of levels already packed within the game. There are 47 main furry stages, and completing those opens the door to even harder levels opens up bringing the total to just over 100. These are separated into normal, puzzle, and extreme bonus stages.
If you are a creative gamer, and like to come up with your own diabolical stage at which to torture your friends well you’r in luck, as the game comes with a fully featured level editor to create your own stages.
Action
Being a Bullet Hell shooter you expect to see a lot of action on the screen and that is exactly what you get with this game. This is a hectic, frantic, and sometimes completely insane game, and Foes fill the screen at a rapid rate, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the massive force.
To deal with these foes Players will be able to perform dash, freeze, and counter moves using the simple and accessible controls on their trip through the numerous, varied levels.
Accessibility and Controls
If this is your first Bangi-O game you may feel a little overwhelmed by just looking at the screen’s don’t worry, as the the control’s run very smoothly and they are quite easy to pick up and go. While the game may take some time to master following the in game tutorial can make the game just a little bit more easier. However, if you see you’r self failing a stage at least three times the game will automatically let you go to the next stage.
NOT
Multiplayer
There is multiplayer included in the game, but it is completely useless. When starting a quick match multiplayer game you and another partner will cooperatively play one of the 100 maps included in the game. However, this feature is beyond laggy even if you have the best connection in the world you will notice your controlled player slow down when ever your partner hits a combo. Also, there is no competitive multiplayer so if you are a person who likes to play against someone then this game is not for you.
Edit mode
This feature was mentioned in the hot section because it can be quite useful and fun, but there are a couple of huge downsides to it. The first being is that you can only share maps with friends. Even though the edit mode is fully featured it may take some time for you to work your way around it. So dont expect to just automaticaly come in and create your own diabolical stages that easily
VERDICT
Overall Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury is a great game and everyone should play it, and it’s a steal at 800 MS points. It has it’s problems but what game doesn’t. Is it GOTY material no and it is nowhere that close, but will it keep you entertained for a long period of time yes. However if your are a person who can’t take difficult games, and a challenge then this is not the game for you.
