Recently a lot of information about both the future of Minecraft and what features we can look forward to, maybe even in Minecraft beta 1.5, have been revealed.
Firstly in the immediate future, including beta 1.5 and maybe for a while, it will all be about bring new content. In the words of Jens Bergensten the team at Mojang “want to finish the feature set first” as it is still in beta stage.
When asked on twitter if bugs would be fixed over features Jens simply replied “more features!”
Of course some bugs will still be fixed as every update brings some fixes which is why the team is apparently just “aiming for 1.5 now”. Jens has also been busy on twitter answering questions on content that we are to see.
When asked about seeing The Nether in Survival Multiplayer in the future, he quickly responded “I hope so!” Portals finally working in multiplayer would definitely be a great feature, for the many players that play online with friends.
One thing a lot of Minecraft fans want to see is the animals, or mobs, to stop despawning. This would allow players to put them in pens and even farm them. Jens has given us help by saying “we plan to make all mobs more persistent”. Also on the topic of farming the team at Mojang is currently thinking about making flowers and mushrooms renewable.
One item Jens suggested that was coming soon was “more food, yes” when asked about a range of items including food, dragons and golems: unfortunately he also said the rest apart from the food was “unlikely”.
The topic of megabeasts has apparently even reached Notch himself, who has commented that the concept is “interesting” but Jens noted that they probably the team won’t “be adding any soon”. Another item that is currently a concept are fossils. These would be added so that players that enjoy playing on peaceful will still be able tame wolves.
By far the biggest news came from Notch himself. When asked on twitter “will there be a mobile Minecraft?” Notch replied with one word, “yes”. So they you have in new features to look forward to as well as a mobile version on its way at some point!
