Bethesda’s Todd Howard has today revealed that PC mods for Skyrim could make their way onto consoles.
Howard said in an interview with EDGE that user created content such as mods may work on console as Skyrim is “mostly a DirectX 9 game”. He went on to say that “We’d like to see it happen, because it works, it’s how we made the game”.
I’m sure all console fans would love to see user created content find its way onto console, as it brings in plenty of new features and content for free. Would you like to see PC mods on consoles or would you rather see them stay only on PC? Comment below.

April 24, 2011 at 2:34 PMWhy should they stay on PCs? The Elder Scrolls is a great franchise and if it works bringing that content to the consoles then let them bring the content to the consoles. I was so jealous of all the stuff people had in oblivion because of the mods, but since I do not have a fancy computer am I not allowed to all the freedoms that PC users enjoy? It is a great way to bring TES’ community together and who knows, it might allow Bethesda to make better games next time. I can understand some mods not being compatible, but I say bring at least some of the mods to the consoles.

April 24, 2011 at 2:47 PMGive them to consoles – the only reason not to is that petty elitism some PC gamers feel. Just because I prefer PC doesn’t mean console gamers should suffer.

I totally agree with you Jzadek

June 19, 2011 at 11:38 AMThey should be on consoles, but I doubt they will be free. Sony and Microsoft will figure out a way to make money off of it.
Awesome
June 19, 2011 at 6:04 PMwell, i would LOVE to see mods on console. everytime I see a video on youtube about mods, I cry a little bit,and I wanna MAKE mods so bad. if they don’t put mods on consoles, i might not even buy the game. even though it looks awesome.

July 6, 2011 at 7:05 PMThat would be awesome! My computer can hardly run Oblivion with the lowest settings on, due to my horrible graphics card that would take a hefty sum to replace. My Xbox on the other hand has great graphics.. =]
I’d love to see this.

July 15, 2011 at 2:11 AMThis is very debatable, but only if Skyrim doesn’t ship with a simpler mod manager for the consoles. Most console users would probably not be used to the complicated installs and un-installs modding usually requires. A simple on-off interface would streamline the situation and allow anyone to take advantage of the mods. Concern number two is about file size of said mods. Not everybody has the hard drive size to implement large mods.

July 26, 2011 at 7:13 PMThat would be awsome. 320GB bring it. I would even pay for the mods. Small fees anyway.

August 12, 2011 at 9:54 PMThe console’s should definitely get access to the modding community. Why not even try to add the construction set too? I’m sure TESNexus would love to work with Microsoft to get their data hosted through the servers that normally house PC Mods. Microsoft and Nexus would make a good bit alone on advertising, especially since this is an event that could continue, it would be an awesome marketing tactic.
I think the easiest way to do it for console owners would be install scripts? I can’t imagine easy installs for some other mods like Oblivion and Morrowind had. (Aww when my pc died, how I missed MMM and OOO in oblivion, and ngdc, supreme magicka was another nice one, improved combat system (could behead people!), alternate start made the tutorial go away, and brought about a good back history starting selection system (could be poor or rich, etc.))
I am excited over Skyrim to say the least, and community mods will make my console playing so much better.

October 1, 2011 at 12:46 AMIf they can find a reasonable way of doing it then please, PLEASE, do!!! Ive loved the Elder Scrolls since Arena, but I just cant afford a pc that would play any of the newer games on anyting but the lowest settings(IF even then). If they could somehow import the mods to my 360 it would make my life!!! Lol

November 7, 2011 at 11:57 AMWhy not bring PC mods to console? If it works. I mean dang, not everyone can afford a top of the line gaming PC just to get better textures out of the game, and have mods. Some of us have bills to pay and don’t live at home with mom and dad. Gaming on a budget never held up to its meaning like it does today, with the way this economy is. So I say go ahead and bring free player created content to the consoles.

November 13, 2011 at 11:00 AMI love Skyrim, almost as much as I love nomin’ on some penis.

November 14, 2011 at 5:14 PMUh…YEAH…mods on consoles…duh…

November 15, 2011 at 2:27 PMWould love to see it, but it likely won’t happen. There are too many technical barriers to bring mods to the consoles. Microsoft and Sony won’t be eager to open their devices up to the modding community.

November 15, 2011 at 5:34 PMit would be nice to have them in the console too, and beside they could profit with it. see they could sell it in the xbox live and give part of the money to the creator of the mod. it would be a win win situation.

November 15, 2011 at 8:29 PMI would not want to see modded games on consoles.I buy pc games over the console releases just to play mods.
I am an Elitist!!!
I have been part of the modding community since Halflife and most of the modders I know do it for fun not for profit. They make mods for the love of the game not for the love of money.
Besides the price of PC components are less expensive than they were 10 yrs ago or even 5 years ago.Which makes building one cheaper than you all think. So burn your kiddie consoles and get out there and build ya a new PC.Nobody I know of ever complained about buying a new console for 600 dollars or more a few years back.
Anyway Have a great day!

November 21, 2011 at 5:56 AMYeah, bring them to consoles!
If Bethesda manage to pull this off, then it’s time for the “mourning ceremony” of the PC.
Mike
November 21, 2011 at 4:10 PM“Mourning Ceremony of the PC”? What platform do you think these mods are going to be made on? Unless you know of a great way to tweak ini and script files with two thumb sticks and a d-pad…I’m not trying to be a “PC Elitist” but I doubt this will happen; and even if it does, half of the mods wouldn’t be usable to the console crowd. Installs would be tricky to standardize for consoles and lets face it, 90% of the graphics mods are outside of the capability of consoles. Unless Bethesda plans to tailor each mod specifically to work with each console. PC’s are open platforms to use however you see fit, consoles aren’t, that’s the whole selling point of a console. Easy to use and produce for because there are no variables. It would be interesting to see this happen…but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

November 21, 2011 at 11:51 PMJzadek is right console user shouldnt suffer equel rights if pc players get the same cheats in other games as console players then console players should get the cheats in sky rim also because some people just want to mess around and not play real seriously

November 22, 2011 at 11:34 AMI’m developing user content for Skyrim and as long my name is attached to my hard work I wouldn’t mind.

November 28, 2011 at 3:27 AMput them on the consoles it wouldn’t be fair to those that dont own a pc powerful enough to play the game on but have a console that will

November 29, 2011 at 10:36 PMYeah, mods coming to the 360, I can see that. 240 points for the mod that makes female boobs bouncier. Enjoy.
MS is too closed off to the mod community on their console to ever let this happen. Some stuff could potentially make it over to the PS3 version, since it’s happened in the past with UT3, but I think Todd Howard is just saying what people want to hear because he’s hoping it’ll sell a few more copies. It’s not going to happen, at least not this console generation. Sorry.

November 30, 2011 at 2:08 PMI personally think it would be great for the console users to get mods. I actually bought the game for PC just because of the mod capability, but oh well. However, I do think that porting the mods for console would take up a lot of time and resources from their developers and in turn lower the amount of new content. So I’m not really sure whether it would be all that great in the long run… I also don’t think that Microsoft or Sony would allow many of the mods, as a lot of user-created content could easily be found offensive to some random evangelist idiot out there who’d end up causing some commotion over it. But if they find a way to work it out, all the power to ’em, that kinda stuff’s not my problem…

December 6, 2011 at 3:30 PMSeeing UGC swing over to the console versions would certainly be a nice touch. I’ve been playing the console releases first — for Oblivion and Skyrim — then later picking up a GotY copy for PC, simply to have fun with some of the fairly astounding mods the community creates.
That being said, I really don’t care either way; mods don’t make the game, and I don’t really dive into them until the game itself (DLC inclusive) has run its course for me. I’d much rather them fix Urog’s book quest for the console versions, first.
Doit.Toit
January 5, 2012 at 11:54 PMWould be sweet. Bethesda puts a lot of time and effort into their games and seem to care about their consumers… I guess it could happen.
I bought skyrim on my box because I’d rather grind out 100 hours laying on my couch than playing the mods. Added the high res mods/eye candy to oblivion and what a pain in the ass. Bring mods that are easily installed on my 360 and best of both worlds!
Sure would have loved MSAA and added eye candy my 580 would have supplied and the reduced load times though.

January 10, 2012 at 7:04 PMPeople have been modding Oblivion on 360 with pc based mods for years already. I have heard its a nightmare to do at first but it can be done. So bring it on says i, And could someone make a suit of t51 b first up lol

February 3, 2012 at 1:57 PMplease send to consoles and disregard people saying don’t it would be unfair to not have these things while others do…and I know life is unfair that’s why I play games I control the fairness, so please let the fairness in games fall to the console players :) bit of a stretch but I think people see my point

May 30, 2012 at 12:44 PMfk consoles. because of them these games that should be great have little kiddie’d down garbage user interfaces and a severe lack of features. pc users have worked tirelessly to undo all the console turd features the developers threw into the game and now these same developers who gave pc gamers the middle finger while developing these games want to steal the pc users hard work for more profit? no thnx

July 17, 2012 at 4:26 AMYes, bring mods to consoles, I am so envious of PC players when I see the mods and I’m an xbox 360 player.
