During the recent update to Minecraft beta 1.5 the achievements have finally been added in, but do you need to know what to do to get them? Here’s a guide which not only explains what they are, more importantly how to get them!
A few things to note are:
– Achievements are for the player and are not bound to an individual world
– If you open up a world made prior you will still have to start at the basic achievements, even if you have the objects which would unlock them.
Taking Inventory
This is awarded once players have opened up their inventory. Simply open/start a world and press ‘I’ to unlock it.
Getting Wood
Cutting down a tree is the starting point for most players. Just hit/chop down a tree block (only one block is needed) and the achievement will unlock. (Requires Taking Inventory)
Benchmarking
The creation of a workbench is another basic step highlighted in the early achievements. It will unlock as soon as you have built a workbench. (Requires Getting Wood)
Time to Strike!
Build your first sword. When on a work bench place vertically from top to bottom; wooden plank, wooden plank, stick and once you have made the sword the achievement will unlock. (Requires Benchmarking)
Cow Tipper
Get leather from a cow. To obtain leather you must kill a cow, a sword will kill one fastest. Cows will drop 0-3 pieces of leather so if at first you don’t succeed find another one. (Requires Time to Strike!)
When Pigs Fly
Notch revealed this a while back with a simple explanation ride a pig off a cliff. To ride pigs you will first have to get a saddle for a dungeon put it on a pig and then finally attempt to ride it off a high drop. (Requires Cow Tipper)
Monster Hunter
It’s time to take it off peaceful and kill a monster. Simply turn it onto normal when it’s dark and the mobs will start to spawn. Kill any attacking monster to unlock the achievement. Note that if a creeper explodes it doesn’t count only if you kill it so the best bet is to go after a spider, zombie or skeleton. (Requires Time to Strike!)
Time to Mine!
Make a wooden pickaxe. Using a workbench with 3 wooden planks and 2 sticks place them into a T shape with the top horizontal line being the wooden planks with the two other squares for the vertical line being the sticks. Once the wooden pickaxe is created the achievement will unlock. (Requires Benchmarking)
Getting an Upgrade
Construct a pickaxe that is better than a wooden pickaxe. While iron pickaxes will unlock it the simplest way to unlock it is by making a stone pickaxe. To create a stone pickaxe you need 3 pieces of cobblestone and 2 sticks and arrange it on a workbench like a wooden pickaxe but replace the wooden planks with the cobblestone. (Requires Time to Mine!)
Hot Topic
Build a furnace. To create one all you need is a workbench and 8 blocks of cobblestone. Arrange the 8 blocks on the workbench in a square with the center one of the 9 squares empty. Once constructed the achievement will unlock. (Requires Time to Mine!)
Acquire Hardware
Smelt iron ore into an iron ingot. Once you have mined a block of iron ore place it into a furnace along with a piece of coal or charcoal; once it has smelted take the iron ingot and the achievement will unlock. (Requires Hot Topic)
On A Rail
Travel a distance of 1km on a mine cart from where you started. This is by no means an easy feat but players must build a track 1000 blocks long and travel along it with a mine cart. Good luck finding the resources needed for such an epic build. (Requires Acquire Hardware)
Delicious Fish
Players must catch and cook a fish. You will firstly need a fishing rod which involves killing spiders for string and constructing a rod. Once you have got a rod, fish in the nearest expanse of water until you hook a fish. Take this fish to a furnace and cook it using charcoal or coal. Once you take the cooked fish out of the furnace the achievement will unlock. (Requires Hot Topic)
Time to Farm!
Players must build a wooden hoe. Firstly collect 2 sticks and 2 wooden planks via cutting down a tree. Then using a workbench place the wooden planks top left and top middle and the sticks middle middle and bottom middle. Once the wooden hoe is made the achievement will unlock. (Requires Benchmarking)
The Lie
Make a cake! To make a cake players must have 3 lots of wheat, 1 egg, 2 lots of sugar and 3 buckets of milk. Wheat can be obtained from tilling grass blocks and planting seeds, after time the wheat will grow. Chickens will occasionally lay eggs and players get milk but right clicking cows with a bucket. Sugar is acquired from sugar cane which randomly grows on grassy areas near water. With all the ingredients, use a work bench and place the 3 buckets of milk along the top, on the middle row from left to right place sugar, egg, sugar and on the bottom place wheat. (Requires Time to Farm!)
Bake Bread
Make a loaf of bread. All you need is 3 pieces of wheat and a work bench; place the 3 pieces of wheat in horizontal line on the work bench to make a bread loaf. Once you take the bread the achievement will unlock. (Requires Time to Farm!)
And that’s your lot, 16 achievements to unlock in Minecraft beta 1.5. Hopefully more will come but there is certainly a few, such as the mine cart achievement, to keep everyone occupied for a while.
