Following the positive reception of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Marvel Entertainment and Activision have announced the next game, Spider-Man: Edge of Time. They described the game as “focused, action-packed adventure set in two connected and evolving timelines, from the contemporary times of the Amazing Spider-Man to the corrupted future world of Spider-Man 2099, against the backdrop of a rich, tightly crafted narrative by acclaimed Marvel veteran Peter David (co-creator of the comic book series Spider-Man 2099).”
Beenox, owned by Activision, is the team behind this Spider-Man game. Once again, taking from its successful predecessor this game will have you playing multiple versions of Spider-Man. The roles fall to two primary iterations of this superhero, the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099. Their job is to correct an altered timeline in which a disastrous future has been made possible through the untimely death of Peter Parker.
Director of Global Brand Management, Vicharin Vadakan, had this to say:
The first Spider-Man entry by Beenox, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, was touted as one of the wall-crawler’s best Spider-Man games to date from both critics and fans. Beenox is once again taking a fresh and different approach to bring a fast-paced and high-octane adventure and unexpected story to life in Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
Dee Brown, Studio Head, further added:
At Beenox, we are constantly listening to the fans and looking for new and creative ways to innovate the gameplay experience for them,” adds Dee Brown, Studio Head, Beenox. “We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance.
Spider-Man: The Edge of Time is slated for a Fall release. At the moment no targeted platforms were divulged, but I think we can safely assume the usual three suspects are involved. Be sure to check back soon as Beenox is sure to give their fans more info in the coming months.
