Yesterday, there were reports that none of the flashcarts for the DSi works on the Nintendo 3DS. Today, one flashcart is to be confirmed working and it’s the R4!
The video below which seems to show the R4 chip working on a 3DS, recently went live on a Chinese site named youku.com.
With a lot of piracy issues coming to the forefront of gaming, and the fact the Nintendo 3DS isn’t even released outside Japan, show that all consoles are at risk from the pirates?
Or will Nintendo manage to clamp down and manage to stop this? We’ll keep you up-to-date on the situation.

March 15, 2011 at 9:40 PMAnd, ironically, the developers spent quite a bit of money on anti-hacking and anti-piracy software and updates, only for it to be hacked on the first day. Now, Nintendo has announced that they reserve the right to brick any 3DS that they figure out is hacked.

March 22, 2011 at 1:48 PMThis isn’t the 3DS being hacked – it’s the backward compatibility of it running old DS games on an R4 cart. The R4 cannot be used for 3DS games so all this proves is that the backwards compatibility of the 3DS with the DS is good enough to run the old hacks for old games.
Now, a hacked 3DS running an R4 type cartridge that has 3DS games on it, with region-encoding removed, would be impressive to see.

April 8, 2011 at 11:46 AMJust plain idiocy, pirates that use flashcarts are victimizing home-brewers. The only reason Nintendo is breaking these bad-boys, is because of the piracy.

April 15, 2011 at 4:38 AM3DS logs each game you play for those who are stupid enough to try an R4 card out :/ when the update is released in may if it detects that a flash card has been used it could brick the online services meaning no future updates, no online gaming, no e-shop and no nintendo browser, ive heard that retailers wont take/trade a console that has been using unauthorised content because they can check
plus whats the point people who use flash carts say they get their games for ‘Free’ if you don’t have the money to buy a game save up for one idiots

April 21, 2011 at 5:46 AMI’m sure someone will find a way to fool the system into thinking that the R4 is not a foreign entity at some point. That way, there’ll be no way for Nintendo to know of your pirate fetish…wait that came out wrong :S Once that happens roll on free games :)I hope someone leaks the root key soon.

May 11, 2011 at 4:18 AMThis is never gonna happen the 3ds isn’t PC or wii ish enough to get hacked by the homebrew channel and they probaly have channel recorder .
Another thing is the 3DS will not acept the flash cards as soon as the update cuz of the so called antihack software.

August 7, 2011 at 2:38 AMIt’s hardware so its hackable, it will get modded for 3ds games… Thats just how things work. People who think differently have ignored or are ignorant of the history of computing.
