It would seem Sony is rather worried about the strength of it court case against Geohot as it has apparently attempted to send Geohot a donation for the custom firmware he has recently released. It has been reported that Sony sent Geohot a donation of $1; this is important as then Sony’s case against him would change to hacking for profit which of course is a lot stronger than their current case which most seem to think will not go far.
Do you think Geohot has done wrong or was this a move by Sony to make Geohot have done something wrong?

January 14, 2011 at 12:50 PMGeorge did nothing wrong. Sony is pissed. Maybe if they embraced homebrew and didnt take away otherOS this would have never happened. Serves you right Sony!!! And $60 games…you were asking for it!

January 14, 2011 at 1:09 PMGeorge is clearly wrong… He did it to feed his ego, then got mad when Sony tried to protect their service. Enabling homebrew will probably lead to very little as most of what is used/supported/made is to support Piracy. With things like the Trophy system, and online gaming… you will see games fall and just aggravate gamers. Read up on the 256? hack on Castle Crashers.

January 15, 2011 at 8:02 AMGeohot doesn’t currently accept donations; so either Sony sent $1 to a scammer, or this is just all rumors.

January 15, 2011 at 2:53 PMAccording to Geohot the hack does not allow piracy. He is apparently against that. It simply allows you to run another OS on the device. If you think this is incorrect then please show how since he (Geohot) has explained in several instances how piracy is not possible using his hack.

January 16, 2011 at 9:29 AMTrue, geohot may have not explained any aspect of piracy in his jailbreaks. But when it comes to complete asshats like sorrowuk and flukes1, it is clear that a lot of people will not stop to try and figure out how to install BD games onto the hard disk and run without the disc. If it weren’t for them, things would have been a lot easier.
